CHAUTAUQUA PARK HISTORIC CRAFTSMAN

Located in the historic Chautauqua Park district of Boulder, Colorado, and backing up to Open Space, this early twentieth century Bungalow Craftsman will undergo a complete transformation bringing it up to contemporary and high performance standards while maintaining its historic details. Oversized windows will open the home to unobstructed views of the iconic Boulder Flatirons.

The former L-shaped kitchen was challenging and non-functional - rendering the only prep space in the corner. The home needed both an interiors refresh and new layout. The new layout brings simplicity and thoughtful functionality to the renovated space, including much needed storage, and connection to the back yard and garden for gatherings and food preparation.

The material color palette brings simplicity and understated tones for a visual softness and comfort while bringing in more natural light.

Located in the historic Original Town district of Superior, Colorado, the homeowners wanted a home with a Victorian exterior and understated contemporary interior. The design blends elements of a traditional American Foursquare with modern elements to create a contemporary home. Well considered daylighting strategies capture daylight to evenly light spaces for a bright and comfortable interior. A centrally located two and a half story vaulted space creates drama and introduces natural daylight to the entire home throughout the year.

Prioritizing sustainability and comfort, the high performance design enhances climate resiliency and indoor air quality. The net-zero energy home is designed to the stringent Energy Star Next Gen program.

stonehenge renovation & addition

Sitting adjacent to Boulder County Open Space with 180 degree views to the mountains the owners sought a contemporary home to age-in-place that captures the majestic mountain views and local wildlife. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright the design transforms a single story 1960s ranch into an expansive two story residence designed to be considerate of neighbor’s view corridors along with the apparent size and mass of the new home.

After the devastating Marshall Fire, the proposed home in Louisville, Colorado will be built back better. The high performance design will be a net zero energy, resilient, and comfortable home - with triple pane windows and doors and high performance insulating strategies to name a few.

Modern steel portal frames and traditional siding details combine to bring a balance and harmony to the exterior design.

The interior design incorporates a dramatic 3-story custom modern floating staircase, indoor gym, movie theatre, and wine room.

REsidence of the Pines

Nestled atop a steep Colorado hillside, this four-story residence captures breathtaking panoramic views. The contemporary rustic design combines rugged materials with a ‘lightness’ of exposed structural elements. With entry at the fourth floor, visitors are greeted upon entry with long views of the lake and Colorado Plains beyond.

Overcoming stringent planning regulations, the reimagined spatial layout connects communal areas to lakeside walk-outs, while bedrooms offer private elevated views. A subterranean parking garage allows for all of the storage requirements of ‘lake life’ to be discreetly hidden from view. The rustic design intertwines sustainability, quality, and comfort into every meticulous detail.

Tucked at the rear of the property, this guest house is a model of creating something beautiful while using cost-effective materials thoughtfully. Additionally, a pass-through window enhances the functional design, fostering a sense of connection and openness within the living space of this cozy abode.

In this serene alpine setting of Leadville, Colorado, sit a series of cabins for Colorado Outward Bound School. The mountain modern design, featuring a steel and cedar palette, seamlessly integrate with the Lodgepole forest, adjusting to the dynamic and rugged terrain. To combat the challenging climate, the design employs pre-fabricated, energy-efficient SIP panels and modular components, ensuring a quick on-site assembly and promoting durability and sustainability in the adverse weather conditions.

The Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) serves as a private guest house for friends and family. It’s design intends to blend in with the neighborhood and maximize natural daylight in the home. The layout creatively and efficiently utilizes 750 square feet of living space to create a spacious, comfortable, and relaxing experience.

With a chopped up interior layout, and the last interior update complete when bell bottoms were fashionable, the full gut interior renovation sought a simple and cohesive design approach. The design thoughtfully prioritizes the many needs of the family including sustainability and resiliency, cost effectiveness, light and bright interiors, and a timeless material palette.

Located near Sloane’s Lake in Denver, Colorado, this 12-unit townhome development draws inspiration from the neighboring early twentieth-century Bungalow homes. Comprising three buildings with attached garages, the contemporary floor plans integrate with a simple material palette in a nod to the classic architecture of the area.
